Online Incident Reporting

Welcome to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) Online Incident Reporting System. FLPD offers this service as a way for you to easily provide incident information to the Department via computer or smart device.

Using this online police reporting system allows you to submit a non-emergency report immediately and receive a free copy of the police report via email.

You can report the following incidents through this system:

Cell Phone Theft - A person commits theft if he or she knowingly obtains or uses, or endeavors to obtain or to use, the property of a retail establishment with intent to, either temporarily or permanently: (a) Deprive the other person of a right to the property or a benefit from the property. (b) Appropriate the property to his or her own use or to the use of any person not entitled to the use of the property. (Note: Lost or mislaid property is not a theft.)

Example: 
Cell phones stolen during a public event or restaurant/bar establishment. The theft can not have occurred as a result of a break-in to your home, vehicle, or business.

 

Civil Matters - A civil matter is a legal dispute between two or more parties. Civil matters are not criminal and often involve lawsuits between parties.

Example:
Civil matters may include landlord/tenant disputes, worker/employer disputes, contractor disputes, financial agreement disputes, family law issues and/or child custody disputes.

 

Lost PropertyProperty that has been lost or misplaced(Note: the value of the property must be less than $3,000 and excludes firearms and lost/stolen military/government IDs and badges.)

Example: Personal items that are missing with no indication they were stolen, i.e. left at a restaurant or other public place. Often insurance companies or third parties request a report number. Items stolen from your vehicle or other location do not apply.

Criminal Mischief/VandalismA deliberate act of damaging, defacing, graffiti, or destroying personal or public property. (Note: damage shall be less than $1,000.00.)

Example: Mailbox maliciously damaged; "Keying" a car's paint finish; graffiti, broken windows; defacement of public or private property, having eggs, shaving cream or toilet paper thrown at house or property. No permanent damage to any property, etc.

 

Misdemeanor Retail TheftA person commits theft if he or she knowingly obtains or uses, or endeavors to obtain or to use, the property of a retail establishment with intent to, either temporarily or permanently: (a) Deprive the retail establishment of a right to the property or a benefit from the property. (b) Appropriate the property to his or her own use or to the use of any person not entitled to the use of the property. (Note: The value of the property must be less than $750.00. Lost or mislaid property is not a theft.)

Example: Items stolen from retail establishment. The theft can not have occurred as a result of a break-in to your business.

Misdemeanor Theft A person commits theft if he or she knowingly obtains or uses, or endeavors to obtain or to use, the property of another with intent to, either temporarily or permanently: (a) Deprive the other person of a right to the property or a benefit from the property. (b) Appropriate the property to his or her own use or to the use of any person not entitled to the use of the property.

(Note: The total value of the property stolen must be less than $750.00. Lost or mislaid property or as a result of a break-in to a home, vehicle, or business is not a theft. ).

 

Please confirm the following to determine if our online police reporting system is right for you:

  • You are at least 18 years of age.
  • This is not an emergency.
  • This incident occurred within the Fort Lauderdale Police Department city limits.
  • There are no known suspects.
  • No one was injured during the incident.
  • No firearms or weapons were involved during the incident.
  • There is no evidence to collect.
  • This is not a previously reported incident.

If you answered yes to all the questions above, you are ready to file your report online. Please make sure to turn off your pop-up blocking software before filing the report.

Upon completion of this reporting process, you will:

  • See the words: "Your online police report has been submitted" showing that your police report has been submitted for approval.
  • Be given a temporary police report case number until final approval.
  • Receive a free copy via email of the police report to print and keep for your records once the report has been approved.

Please Note:

  • All cases filed using the FLPD Online Incident Reporting System will be reviewed.
  • Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted.
  • Filing a false police report is a crime.

Before you begin your report, you must have the following information:

  1. Victim information (your name, address, zip code, phone number, and valid email address)
  2. Address where the incident occurred (Street number, street name, zip code)
  3. Incident date and time
  4. Type of location where the incident occurred
  5. Information of property affected including type, brand, model, serial number, color, quantity, total market value, and any additional details about the property affected.
  6. Be ready to provide a detailed statement about the incident. Provide as many details as possible
